Jay Friction is a London‑based DJ with over 37 years immersed in electronic and house music, shaped by a lifetime on dancefloors, behind decks, and inside record shops.
His passion began at the age of 13, inspired by early electronic and synth‑driven artists such as Depeche Mode, Yazoo, and Tears for Fears. Regular trips to Soho record shops — particularly Trax Records on Greek Street — opened the door to dance music culture, and a defining moment came in 1986 with the purchase of the balearic classic “Song for Denise” by Piano Fantasia.
From that point on, music became an obsession. Holiday jobs funded a pair of Technics 1210s, sparking a deep vinyl addiction and a commitment to underground sounds that has never faded.
Jay secured his first DJ residency in 1993 at Labrynth, held at the legendary Four Aces Club in Dalston Lane, a venue famed for its packed Friday and Saturday nights and its roots in rave culture. While the venue was notorious for hardcore energy, Jay found his home in the house and progressive house rooms, learning the art of reading and building a crowd in real time.
By 1995, driven by a desire to create his own space, Jay began promoting intimate parties around London, transforming bars and restaurants into underground house sessions filled with friends, DJs, and passionate music lovers. These early nights helped him develop both a sharp musical identity and a deep understanding of what makes a dancefloor work.
