Stow, OH (October 2, 2026)—Audio-Technica has re-released its ATM25 hypercardioid dynamic instrument microphone, a legacy product for drummers and those who capture kick drums, among other applications.
The mic, first introduced in 1983, has been used by countless engineers and musicians over the years, chosen for its warm, full-bodied punch and ruggedness, and it now returns to the A-T lineup. Designed for focused capture of high SPLs at close range, this mic is intended for kick drums but is also appropriate for capturing toms, brass and other highly dynamic instruments.
The ATM25 is also suitable for miking electric guitar and bass cabinets. The manufacturer states that its ability to handle high sound pressure levels, combined with “a warm, full-bodied low-frequency response and tightly focused hypercardioid polar pattern, allows the microphone to capture high-output sources with exceptional clarity, definition and impact,” while providing effective rejection of off-axis sound. Conversely, the ATM25 works for close-up voiceover and radio broadcast work.
The ATM25 features an all-metal body and incorporates a stand clamp and multilevel grille, ensuring simple setup and straight-forward performance in the studio or on the stage.
“We’ve changed nothing,” remarks Audio-Technica U.S. senior marketing manager Gary Boss. “This is the classic ATM25, made in Japan, following our original design.”
